The Hodge-Podge Sale at Dunhaven Place

Announcing the Hodge-Podge sale at Dunhaven Place!  As we are closing our store front by the end of the month, we have pulled out most of the items from various storage locations and brought them into the store.  Everything in the store is 50% off and holiday items are 75% off of the original ticketed price!  The late 1800's Victorian side by side drop leaf desk is adorable and at 50% off is only $200!!  It has tons of scrolly detail and storage!  View details on Craigslist by searching "Dunhaven Place".

There are two exceptions to the sale--the beautiful buffet and shelf unit (the price of which has been lowered to $1200) and the round pedestal table and chairs.  Be sure to come in and check out all the sale items including 75% off of Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Easter, Valentine's Day and 4th of July!  New furniture items have been added as well.

Creating A Signature Vintage Look Dunhaven Place Style

For quite some time I have been having a yen for a place to snooze outside.  Since I don't like the look of a traditional chaise lounge, I had to come up with something a bit more creative.  Now that we are moving on to some new opportunities and closing our store front (yes, we are closing our store front by the end of July--sob!) and going straight online, (meaning we will still be offering goodies via our website and Craigslist--yay!) I will have a little more time to snuggle up with the kiddies on my new outdoor bed. 

When pulling together a vintage look, don't be afraid to use things that aren't exactly perfect.  For example, this headboard is queen sized while the mattress (a double high air mattress, perfect for protection against puddles that collect from watering) is a mere twin.  Does anyone care?  (Really, I'm asking . . . if you do, let me know.)  One trick you can use to fool the eye is to take up some of the extra space with a little table to one side.  This one was put together from an old wrought iron plant stand and a plate from the kitchen.  Sure, it might break but when it gets dirty but it can go right into the dishwasher.   

It's more than okay to mix faux rose bushes with the real ones to add some color as long as they are in a place where they won't be too damaged by the sun.  The head of this bed will be in shade most of the day but it would be safer to put the throw away until ready for use to protect it from fading.  Most of these pillows are white or light so fading won't be such a tragedy.

This same strategy was used for this garden bench as well--pure white linens love some sun!  It helps to fade spots and graying. 

Don't be afraid to use what you have.  This corner offers a bough from a rose bush for additional shade and a stair post (behind the headboard in the corner) that used to live in the house. 

The table displays a doily, a pretty vase full of flowers, a teacup and a depression glass pitcher in the Adam pattern.  Are they more likely to break here than in the house?  Sure, but it's worth the risk to create a space you love.

Beautiful Furnishings at Dunhaven Place

This lovely piece has been asked about so often, we have finally decided to offer it for sale.  If this is one you have been eyeing, be quick because it won't last long! 

A number of our consignors have opted to remove their items rather than have them go for a reduced price during out July sale (50% off) so be sure to hurry in on Saturday in case the item you want is gone.

This sweet table was a Bombay Company piece and has been given new life with a distressed paint job and reproduction glass knobs.

This vintage pedestal table is so darling!  Six chairs, two leaves equals 6 feet of dining space!

This white dresser/bureau has antique metal bin pulls for hardware-with carved roses.  So sweet!

It also has carved roses appliques.

This wicker bassinette is darling but is actually still with the owner.  It measures 41"h x 22.5"w x 43.5"l.  Please note that height is mostly for the high back.  About 100 years old and $100--contact me if interested.

Lots of Linens and Lace at Dunhaven Place

They say paint is the easiest way to change a room but fabric has got to beat plying a brush by a mile.

Currently in stock is a set of four of these dining chair slip covers (the chair pictured is more like a desk chair) by Waverly in the Norfolk/Vintage Rose pattern.  They are perfect for bringing a little red into a room even if just for the 4th of July, Christmas or Valentine's Day.

A fresh batch of gorgeous white and cream linens has come through the door.  They are lovely!

There's nothing like a bit of linen and lace to bring a bit of Downton Abbey into any room.

A Vintage 4th of July at Dunhaven Place

Independence Day will be upon us before we know it!  Vintage red white and blue calls to mind the grandeur of days gone by.  The best 4th of July is the vintage variety.

This local backyard demonstrates this gardener's penchant for vintage style with its wicker furniture and gazebo swagged in bold red, white and blue.

Pops of black is reminiscent of Paul Revere and events that led to the independence of America.

The play of light and shadow is as timeless as the picket fencing in the background.

It doesn't take much to call to mind those days gone by, just an artfully displayed piece or two.

This antique wicker rocker is just the ticket and is available at Dunhaven Place on June 14th.  Be sure to come by and check it out along with our fun 4th of July decor.

Seeking Inspiration at Dunhaven Place

Beauty is something we can find around us or it is something we can go looking for.  At Dunhaven Place we are always looking for inspiring vistas to fuel our creativity and to create beauty in those very places that don't require much wandering.  Our homes and gardens,whether they be acres of land or only a balcony, are just such places.

  Happy was the day when a fellow rose enthusiast walked through our doors and led us to one of the most lovely spots on earth:  her garden.  An invitation to visit her personal heaven on earth was speedily accepted and off I went, camera at the ready.

Much inspiration was to be gleaned from her artistic pairings and I learned that roses are at their best when complemented with flowers from other families, various shapes over which to spread and amongst dapples of light and shadow.

Roses are a well loved flower that will shine in any setting.  In my mind, however, they look best in an environment that bespeaks the atmosphere of days past amongst non-flora and fauna treasures that are as timeless as the roses themselves and this garden did not disappoint! 

The scenery is studded with beautiful garden gems such as statues, bird baths, cages, lanterns, topiaries and more, giving the landscape depth, breadth and resonance. 

 It's difficult to believe that this garden surrounds a tract home in an urbane city a hop skip and a jump from Dunhaven Place. 

Every bit of this beautiful garden is ornamented in one way or another without feeling the least overdone in any way.

And then I spied the table and chairs under the canopy of the Cecile De Brunner.

The chandelier, the sheer draperies, the lace tablecloth, all were perfect counterpoints to the black metal chairs and other hardscape features.

How I wish my poor camera skills had captured the full beauty of what I was so thoroughly enjoying.  I went home and resolved to more fully see, use and appreciate the beauty around me. 

Father's Day is coming up and we at Dunhaven Place fully realize that we have little to offer that would warm the heart of the dads out there.  So, we offer a perfectly suitable alternative:  the artwork of CafePress/Attune, the company that created our gorgeous logo.  Be sure to visit and view all the fun ideas for the fathers in your life.
